UFC 81 Results

Well, UFC 82 went how I hoped, if not how I predicted. I was pretty close on 2 of the fights wrong on 1. And to all you Pride haters here this: 3 out of 5 Champions in the UFC are former PRIDE FC fighters! Quentin “Rampage” Jackson, Antonio “Minatauro” Noguiera, and Anderson Silva. Not to mention, Dan Henderson (Pride Champ) I predict will beat Silva for the title. Long live PRIDE!

In the fight Noguiera and Silvia, I had the correct winner, the correct method, but the wrong round. In my defense, I did mention that Silvia’s size would give Nog a hard time, I just didn’t think it would take 3 rounds for him to figure it out. 2 out of 3 isn’t bad.

Mir vs. Lesnar. I missed on this, as I felt the fight would be a long boring decision. However, if you re-read my prediction, I did mention there was a chance Mir lands a submission, and he did. Mir, although not as dominant as his former self looked quick and in shape, is still a world-class Jiu-Jitsu artist. I’m not convinced Mir is back, but I certainly am rooting for the guy. He’s one of the class-acts in MMA.

As for Lesnar, he’s great at take downs, but has very little ability to finish. I know it seemed like he was beating up Mir, but did you notice how none of his punches contained much power? Mir was never hurt, and Lesnar was simply throwing a volume of punches as opposed to strong, efficient, powerful ones. I’m concerned about Lesnar’s lack of punching power.

Mir certainly does a good job in showing that Joe Schmoe from the WWE (Or any other sport) who has no MMA experience can’t just come in and hang with top competition. I mean, Mir’s a former champ, but he’s not even in the top 15 heavyweights.

Marquardt vs. Horn was an awesome submissions chess match. I give props to Nate “The Great” he’s got sick Jits to be able to submit Horn, one of the most accomplished submission guys in MMA.

The difference here was Nate’s age and his ability to strike. Here, I picked the right guy, right round, but the wrong method of finishing. Nate could have finished him by punches but Horn’s one problem is that he’s been suceptible to leaving himself open to guillotine chokes. And he got caught, and Nate capitalized.
