MMA: My Top 13 Pound for Pound Mixed Martial Arts Fighters

Why 13? Because it’s my lucky number.
.
.
  • 1. Fedor Emelianenko (The most dominate fighter in all of MMA. The only hole in his game is his propensity towards getting cut, which is the only reason he has a loss on his record)
  • 2. Anderson Silva (has made me a believer with win over Hendo, was 6th)
  • 3. BJ Penn (back at his most effective weight, must prove he can stay in shape)
  • 4. Quentin “Rampage” Jackson (Also beat Hendo, but less decisively)
  • 5. Georges St. Pierre (Could be a top 3 guy..should be, but lost title, will beat Serra)
  • 6. Kid Yamamoto
  • 7. Rodrigo ‘Minatauro’ Nogueira (used to be “Fedor before Fedor”. When he beats Silvia for the UFC title, he’ll move up past Josh)
  • 8. Takanori Gomi (drops down due to lack of fights and lack of quality fights)
  • 9. Dan Henderson (looked tired from moving down in weight and not stonger drops down a couple)
  • 10. Josh Barnett (still the last man to beat Couture at Heavy Weight, and never lost his UFC title! Needs to fight a quality fight soon)
  • 11. Uriah Faber
  • 12. Randy Couture (Until he proves to me that he can beat a real heavyweight (Fedor, Noguiera, Josh Barnett, I will think of him as over-rated, but I love his efforts to improve the sport and the law-suit with UFC!)
  • 13. Hayato Sakurai Could be the most well-rounded of all.

Honorable Mentions and “Should Be’s”:

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua: Now not fighting Liddell because he’s hurt again. When healthy is in the top 5. (Remember he demolished Rampage)

Mitsuhiro Ishida: Beat Melendez recently. Kind of the Winky Wright of MMA, makes everyone look bad but isn’t a finisher.

Gilbert Melendez: Recent loss to Ishida. Was in top 13.

Matt Serra: I love Serra, and he’s right about Hughes being an asshole. However he’s only won vs. GSP, by knock out. He needs to prove that wasn’t a fluke.

Shinya Aoki: One of the best submission guys around. Go Go Plata finish on Joachim “Hellboy” Hansen!

Lyoto Machida: Still undefeated. He’s the next threat to Anderson Silva’s crown, and he’s a real threat.  Defeats are a virtual who’s-who of opponents, and has actually fought stronger competition than Silva recently.  Kazuhiro Nakamura, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Rich Franklin, Stephan Bonnar, Sam Greco, B.J. Penn
